Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Elise Ehland is a double board-certified Facial Cosmetic Surgeon and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. She joined the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) at Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Science Center as an Assistant Professor in 2024. She served 13 years of active duty military service with the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In the service, she was a full-time surgical attending and faculty at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at David Grant USAF Medical Center, and an Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with the Air Force Postgraduate Dental School. She attended Marquette University for a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical sciences. Subsequently, she attended the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry for her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, followed by two post-doctoral residencies (AEGD and OMS) and a surgical fellowship; she earned her certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery after completing her residency at David Grant Medical Center, Travis AFB, CA in 2016. Dr. Ehland uniquely completed an advanced surgical fellowship through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in Facial Cosmetic Surgery in Atlanta, Georgia in 2019. She continued to teach a full scope of OMS, with a focus on cosmetic and orthognathic surgery, to Air Force residents until she separated from the service. Prior to joining the LSU Faculty, she worked in a private practice oral and maxillofacial surgery group in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Dr. Ehland is an active member of her professional societies and enjoys teaching her specialty of cosmetic surgery to surgical residents. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Diplomate of the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). She has been published in academic journals and textbooks, and continues to lecture at professional meetings, continuing medical/dental education, and review courses. Dr. Ehland also currently serves as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery, and is an active member of the Women in Cosmetic Surgery focus group within the AACS.

Dr. Ehland is married, and her husband is a retired periodontist and is also a veteran of the USAF. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her husband, gardening, hiking, traveling to visit friends and family, spending time with her dog, watching sports, cooking, and reading.
