A division within the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry, Clinical Comprehensive Dentistry is responsible for structuring and teaching comprehensive dentistry (formerly known as general dentistry) within the LSUHSC School of Dentistry. Organized into six teams, the third- and fourth-year students are instructed by members of the Clinical Comprehensive Dentistry Division, Team Leaders and Co-Team Leaders. Other members of the instruction team are a prosthodontist, a periodontist, and an oral medicine diagnostician. Endodontists, radiologists, and oral surgeons are available for consultations. This team approach enhances students' critical thinking skills and encourages them to treat the entire needs of the patient, not just specific disciplines, to better prepare them for private practice.
