Description
of Care
The Department of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery
(OMS) at the LSUHSC School
of Dentistry (LSUSD)
treats both children and
adults who are current
patients in the dental
school clinic or have been
referred by a dentist or
physician.
Residents
receive both a medical
degree and a certificate
in OMS.
Oral and
maxillofacial surgery
residents treat extensive
hard- and soft-tissue
trauma, pathology, and
temporomandibular joint
disorders. They perform
cosmetic surgery,
maxillofacial
reconstruction,
preprosthetic and implant
surgery, and complicated
tooth extractions.
Become
a Patient
LSUSD:
Referral by dentist or
physician only:
Appointments in the dental
school clinic are made by
referral from dentist or
physician. Doctors may fax
a referral letter to OMS,
indicating the patient's
name, contact number, and
the specific reason for
the referral. The patient
will receive a call from
the OMS scheduling clerk
within 1-2 weeks. Doctors
should call 504-889-9893 or fax 504-941-8480 to
refer a patient.
OMS is not
accepting single tooth
extractions; these should
be referred to UMCNO Hospital.

Self-referral Clinic:
To schedule an
appointment, call
504-702-5125 or 504-702-3000 and ask to be transferred to the Oral Surgery Department. Dentists or physicians can fax referrals to 504-702-5742.
Appointments are
required.
Treatment
Fees
LSUSD: For limited care an OMS consult without insurance is $100.00 which includes an exam & x-ray. With insurance, the fee is based on the office visit. Extractions will range from $130.00-$560.00 which will be determined at the time of the visit. Only panorex x-rays taken within one year will be accepted from outside referrals and can be emailed to oralsurgery@lsuhsc.edu.

the date and patient's
name on the x-ray prior to
emailing or include this
information in the email.
University Medical Center of New Orleans:
OMS fees are on a sliding
scale, based on the
patient's ability to pay.
Treatment
in other departments at
LSUHSC School of Dentistry
requires additional fees.
Referrals involving
multiple extractions,
implants or comprehensive
treatment will be referred
to the adult screening
department.
Location
& Hours
LSUSD:
The OMS clinic is located
on the 2nd floor of the
Advanced Clinical Care and Research Building. Hours:
Monday through Friday,
8 am - 12 pm and 1 pm
- 4:30 pm (closed for lunch 12-1 pm M-F).
University Medical Center of New Orleans:
The dental clinic is
located at 2001 Tulane Ave, third floor on the clinic side. Hours:
Monday through Friday,
8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
