Advanced Education Clinics:  Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Description of Care
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) at the LSUHSC School of Dentistry (LSUSD) treats both children and adults who are current patients in the dental school clinic or have been referred by a dentist or physician.

Residents receive both a medical degree and a certificate in OMS.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery residents treat extensive hard- and soft-tissue trauma, pathology, and temporomandibular joint disorders. They perform cosmetic surgery, maxillofacial reconstruction, preprosthetic and implant surgery, and complicated tooth extractions.

Become a Patient
LSUSD:  Referral by dentist or physician only:  Appointments in the dental school clinic are made by referral from dentist or physician. Doctors may fax a referral letter to OMS, indicating the patient's name, contact number, and the specific reason for the referral. The patient will receive a call from the OMS scheduling clerk within 1-2 weeks. Doctors should call 504-889-9893 or fax 504-941-8480 to refer a patient.

OMS is not accepting single tooth extractions; these should be referred to UMCNO Hospital.

University Medical Center of New Orleans Hospital:  Self-referral Clinic:  To schedule an appointment, call 504-702-5125 or 504-702-3000 and ask to be transferred to the Oral Surgery Department. Dentists or physicians can fax referrals to 504-702-5742. Appointments are required.

Treatment Fees
LSUSD:
For limited care an OMS consult without insurance is $100.00 which includes an exam & x-ray. With insurance, the fee is based on the office visit. Extractions will range from $130.00-$560.00 which will be determined at the time of the visit. Only panorex x-rays taken within one year will be accepted from outside referrals and can be emailed to oralsurgery@lsuhsc.edu. Please be sure to include the date and patient's name on the x-ray prior to emailing or include this information in the email.

University Medical Center of New Orleans:  OMS fees are on a sliding scale, based on the patient's ability to pay.

Treatment in other departments at LSUHSC School of Dentistry requires additional fees. Referrals involving multiple extractions, implants or comprehensive treatment will be referred to the adult screening department.
