Scholarship in Dental
Lab Technology
Thuy Thu Le,
a junior in the Dental
Laboratory Technology
Program, is the recipient
of the $500 Lapeze
Scholarship. The
scholarship is funded by
contributions to the LSU
Health Sciences Center
Foundation, from friends
of John Lapeze and gifts
from previous award
recipients. The winner is
chosen based on
responsibility,
leadership, citizenship,
technical aptitude,
academic ability and
financial need.
LAMMICO
Scholarship
First-year dental student
Jamie Sitz
has been award the Ninth
Annual LAMMICO merit
scholarship presented to a
high-achieving student to
help defray tuition and
other expenses. Since
2000, thirty-three
scholarships, each in the
amount of $6,000, have
been presented to dental
and medical students.
LAMMICO is a mutual
insurance company based in
Metairie that provides
malpractice insurance for
the dental and medical
professions.
Hotel Dieu
Scholarship
Fourth-year dental student
Benjamin Foster
is the recipient of the
2009-2010 Hotel Dieu
Medical and Dental Staff
Scholarship in Dentistry.
The $1,000 scholarship
honors a fourth-year
student who has
demonstrated outstanding
scholarship, leadership,
and professionalism for
the first three years of
dental school.

Malloy/OKU Scholarships
for Academic Excellence
Fourth-year dental

Barton have
been awarded $500
scholarships from the
Theta Kappa Chapter of
OKU. The award is based on
academic achievement in
the junior year of dental
school. Theta Kappa is the
LSUSD chapter of Omicron
Kappa Upsilon, the
national dental honor
society. Dr. Randolph B.
Malloy was a beloved
teacher in oral and
maxillofacial surgery who
played a key role in the
school's relocation to
Baton Rouge and subsequent
return to New Orleans
following Hurricane
Katrina.
Grace Voigt
Scholarship
Each year three students
are selected to receive
the Grace Voigt
Scholarship which honors a
second, third, and fourth
year dental student who
has demonstrated
outstanding leadership,
concern for fellow
students and patients,
high ethical standards,
and dedication to the
profession of dentistry.
The winners for this
school year are Cole
Johnson (second
year), Jared
Harris (third
year) and David
Guidry (fourth
year).
Baldridge
Scholarship Winners
Twenty top-performing
dental students have been
selected as recipients of
the 2009 Baldridge
Scholarships. Each will
receive $1,000 for the
current academic year.
Five students are chosen
from each class based on
outstanding academic
performance. First-year
students are selected
based on undergraduate
grade point average and
scores on their entrance
exams. The scholarships
are awarded annually.
Funding comes from a
generous gift bequeathed
to the dental school by
the late Dr. Carl
Baldridge, a dentist in
the Baton Rouge area who
was also well known as a
rancher. Dr. Baldridge
also funded two endowed
chairs in the LSU Health
Sciences Center, one to
fund research through the
Center of Excellence of
Oral & Craniofacial
Biology and the second in
the Department of
Neurology. This year's
winners are Sarah
Bihm, Erin Green,
Christy Lottinger,
Nickolas Maskas and
Justin Stanford
from the first-year class.

Cole Johnson, Alexis
Nacchio, Thu Nguyen and
Nicole Thieler
are winners from the
second-year class. Jared
Harris, Michael Maher,
Erin Maturin, Ruby Nhan
and Joshua Parker
were chosen from the
third-year class and David
Barton, Benjamin Foster,
David Guidry, Son
Nguyen, Kevin Williams
were chosen from the
fourth-year class.
Louisiana Dental
Laboratory Association
Scholarship
Louis M. Webre,
a second-year student in
the dental laboratory
technology program, was
awarded the 2009 Dr.
Raymond Schiele
Educational Scholarship in
the amount of $500.00 from
the Louisiana Dental
Laboratory Association.
Webre was selected on the
basis of academic
performance, career goals
and financial need. The
scholarship is named after
Dr. Raymond Schiele, a
former program coordinator
of the dental laboratory
technology program at
LSUSD. He is an avid
supporter of dental
laboratory technology and
a beloved teacher and
leader.
Pierre Fauchard
Academy Foundation
Dental Student
Scholarship
Jared Harris,
a fourth-year dental
student, received the 2010
Pierre Fauchard Academy
Foundation Dental Student
Scholarship. The
scholarship, in the amount
of $1,500, honors a
third-year dental student
who has demonstrated the
greatest potential for
developing into an
outstanding leader in the
dental profession.
Selection criteria include
leadership,
professionalism, and GPA.
A native of Crowley,
Louisiana, Jared graduated
from LSU in Baton Rouge.
He is currently president
of the Student Government
Association.
