Endowed
Chairs and
Professorships
Endowed chairs and
professorships are created
to recruit and retain
superior faculty whose
research, teaching, or
public service contribute
to educational excellence.
The original fund stays
intact and the annual
interest benefits a named
professor.
From a donor's
perspective, it is a
wonderful way to support
dental education in
perpetuity while creating
a legacy for an individual
or a loved one.
The minimum contribution
for a professorship is
$60,000, which is matched
with $40,000 from the
state of Louisiana to
create a $100,000
endowment.
The minimum contribution
for a chair is $600,000,
with a $400,000 match from
the state to create a $1
million endowment.
According to the American
Dental Education
Association, faculty
recruitment and retention
is one of the most
critical challenges facing
dental schools nationwide.
Establishing endowments
such as professorships and
chairs provide important
annual income to attract
and reward quality faculty
within the institution.
