Remembering Susannah Richard
Susannah Richard, LSUHSC School of Dentistry art director, passed away on April 28 after a decades-long battle with cancer. During her eight-year tenure at LSUSD she created an exceptional array of brochures, posters, newsletters, logos, and electronic media designs, including the template for the LSUSD News. Her work will serve as a lasting memory of her talent and creativity.
A native of Baton Rouge, Susannah worked as a photo and runway model during and after college. After earning a bachelor of fine art at the LSU School of Design, she spent her career in graphic design and art direction.

Susannah Stacey Richard, 1962-2014 |
Known as Susannah to her friends in New Orleans and as Stacey to family and childhood friends, she loved all things NOLA, especially Mardi Gras and her Uptown neighborhood. She was a gourmet cook and even when she could no longer eat, she relished preparing dishes for friends and family.
Joanne Courville, director of alumni relations, said, “Susannah taught us how to live life in the most difficult of circumstances; how to laugh when things aren’t going our way; and that perseverance is the key to excellence. She was a true friend and she loved life despite all the suffering she endured. We’ll never forget her and we miss her every day.”
In her memory, Susannah’s family is planning to donate a New Orleans-themed stained glass window to the dental school.
A Family Affair
Dental student Rekha Wadhwa, Class of 2015, and her family hosted a student and alumni golf tournament on May 17 to raise funds for the preclinical laboratory renovation project. Rekha’s parents, Dr. Manjit and Semi Wadhwa, hosted the event at their family-owned Belle Terre Country Club in LaPlace. Festivities included lunch, an award ceremony, and raffle prizes.
Second-year dental students Tommy Garitty, Justin Martin, and Troy Patterson won first place. The 100 golfers who participated raised nearly $4,000 to benefit the lab renovations. This is the second year that Rekha and her family have hosted a tournament.
