Billie Gail Jeansonne,
DDS, PhD, professor in the
Department of Endodontics,
has been awarded the I.B.
Bender Lifetime Educator
Award presented by the
American Association of
Endodontics. She will be
the tenth recipient of the
award since it was
initiated in 2001.
The focus of the national
award is to honor
extraordinary educators
who have demonstrated
excellence through
selfless commitment to
full-time educational
pursuits, and whose
guidance has instilled in
her students the desire to
pursue excellence in their
careers.
Dr. Jeansonne has been on
the faculty of the LSU
School of Dentistry since
1977. In the aftermath of
Hurricane Katrina, she
played a key role in
helping the dental school
relocate to Baton Rouge
and then to return to the
New Orleans campus.
Dr. Jeansonne received a
doctorate in physiology
and biophysics from the
University of Alabama in
Birmingham in 1973.
In 1981, she received her
certificate in endodontics
from the LSU School of
Dentistry.
