Joins Periodontics
Faculty
Stefan A. Hienz, DMD,
PhD, has been appointed
assistant professor in the
Department of Periodontics
at the LSU School of
Dentistry.
A native of Munich,
Germany, Dr. Hienz
received his doctorate in
microbiology from the
Karolinska Institutet in
Stockholm, Sweden. In
1998, he received his DMD
from the Harvard School of
Dental Medicine. In 2001,
he completed his residency
in periodontics at the
University of California
at Los Angeles School of
Dentistry.
While at Harvard, he
received the Pierre
Fauchard Academy award for
outstanding academic
achievements in dentistry.
As a member of the faculty
at Bernhard Gottlieb
Dental Clinic/Medical
University in Vienna,
Austria, he was
co-director of the
postgraduate program in
periodontics. He also
performed live surgeries
that were televised during
national and international
professional meetings.
Since 1995, Dr. Hienz has
co-authored 11 articles in
scientific journals.
The announcement of Dr.
Hienz's appointment was
made by Dr. Gerald Evans,
interim chairman of the
Department of
Periodontics. "In addition
to over nine years of
clinical experience, Dr.
Hienz has had excellent
dental school and
postgraduate training in
the United States," Dr.
Evans said. "His
qualifications and
experience will be
valuable contributions to
our department."
Dr. Hienz is fluent in
German, English and
Swedish. He is also a
triathelete.
