Esteemed By Her Peers

Billie Gail Jeansonne, DDS, PhD, professor in the Department of Endodontics, has been awarded the I.B. Bender Lifetime Educator Award presented by the American Association of Endodontics.  She will be the tenth recipient of the award since it was initiated in 2001.

The focus of the national award is to honor extraordinary educators who have demonstrated excellence through selfless commitment to full-time educational pursuits, and whose guidance has instilled in her students the desire to pursue excellence in their careers.

Dr. Jeansonne has been on the faculty of the LSU School of Dentistry since 1977.  In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, she played a key role in helping the dental school relocate to Baton Rouge and then to return to the New Orleans campus.

Dr. Jeansonne received a doctorate in physiology and biophysics from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1973.  In 1981, she received her certificate in endodontics from the LSU School of Dentistry.
