Dean Gremillion Receives Fauchard Award

Henry A. Gremillion, DDS, MAGD, professor and dean of LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry (LSUSD), was selected as the recipient of the 2015 Pierre Fauchard Academy Gold Medal Award. It is one of the international honor dental organization's most prestigious and exclusive awards.

The Gold Medal Award is presented annually to a dentist in the United States who has made outstanding contributions to the progress and standing of the dental profession. The Awards Committee noted Dr. Gremillion's tireless service and dedication to the dental profession, his peers, and his community as an educator, author, clinician, leader, researcher, and consultant. Founded in 1936, the Pierre Fauchard Academy is an honorary dental service organization with more than 8,000 Fellows worldwide. Dentists who are among the most outstanding leaders in various fields of dentistry compose the membership; fellowship is by invitation only. The mission of Fellows is to recognize and grow leaders in the dental profession, their communities, and society.

Dr. Gremillion's previous awards include LSUSD Alumnus of the Year, the Academy of General Dentistry Thaddeus V. Weclew award for exceptional contributions to the art and science of dentistry and for promoting the principles and ideals of the academy, the Dawson Academy Distinguished Service Award, and the American Academy of Orofacial Pain Distinguished Service Award. Since 2002 he has been co-investigator on four research projects with funding exceeding $3 million. He has authored or co-authored eighty-five scientific articles, abstracts, and textbook chapters. A 1977 graduate of LSUSD, Dr. Gremillion joined the school as dean in 2008.

LDC "Big Turnover" Features Keenan Lewis

The "Big Turnover" welcomed Keenan Lewis, cornerback for the New Orleans Saints, to the school this fall. Keenan played college football at Oregon State and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. A native of New Orleans, he joined the Saints in 2013.

Dr. Joseph Lacoste, founder and CEO of Louisiana Dental Center (LDC), started the annual event in 2010 to support special projects at LSUSD. For every turnover by the Saints in the prior season, LDC would donate $250 to the school. In recent years, LDC has generously contributed much more and to date, Dr. Lacoste and his associates have contributed over $35,000 in support of the Preclinical Simulation Laboratories Campaign and the annual Summer Enrichment Program. Dr. Lacoste is a 1980 graduate of LSUSD.
